New Zealand is an island nation in Oceania east of Australia. Its current population is 4 million, and has only began urbanizing in the last 140 years.

Almost a thousand years of occupation by Polynesians had produced numerous villages, many plantations, and a few fortifications, but urban development started only after active settlement by Europeans, the first of whom (Dutch) saw a little of the country in 1642 and went away leaving a gap until 1769 when Captain James Cook did a serious amount of mapping all around and encouraged other Brits to take an interest. In 1947 it gained it's independence and was officially recognized as a nation.

Now the country has the largest Polynesian city in the world: Auckland. (Well, it's not full of people of Polynesian origin.) It's capital is Wellington.
